Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, is confident the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will regain political dominance in the 2028 general elections.

He says no parliamentary seat currently held by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be secure.

Afenyo-Markin, addressing executives of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) in Parliament on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, expressed confidence that the NPP will regain political authority in the country if members do their homework well.

The Effutu Member of Parliament urged party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation, stressing that victory will depend on discipline, loyalty, and sustained engagement with voters.

“If elections are held today, NPP will be the majority, but that will also require hard work and loyalty. We do not doubt our minds that you will take up the mantle,” he stated.

He accused the government of failing to deliver on some key campaign promises which he says would be the reason Ghanaians will vote them out in the next elections. He mentioned the proposed 24-hour economy policy as one of the key policies the electorates will punish the current government on.

Indicating that the administration is underperforming, the lawmaker said the government’s failure to increase cocoa producer prices and the hike in utility tariff are also signs that things will go in the NPP’s favour in the next general elections.

Afenyo-Markin also admonished the TESCON members to reject claims that the NPP marginalises ethnic groups, insisting that the party remains inclusive and committed to representing all Ghanaians irrespective of background.

On his part, the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Samuel Awuku, who was also speaking at the same meeting reinforced the party’s position, declaring that the NPP will aggressively contest every seat currently held by the NDC.

“We will be joining our colleagues to storm the campuses. The 2028 election is all play, all play, no NDC seat is safe. We will approach every NDC seat like a normal seat,” he said.
