The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has released data on the number of businesses operating in Ghana.
What does the data say about Ghana’s open space and mobile businesses?

The Integrated Business Establishment Survey I (IBES I) Reports, released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), reveal a broader picture of enterprises in Ghana’s economy.

For many years, the GSS said, these businesses were visible everywhere in our cities and communities, yet they were largely missing from official statistics. GSS has now measured them for the first time in Ghana’s economic census.

The Government Statistician, Dr Alhassaon Iddrisu, said that “Ghana has 2.64 million businesses, including 693,748 operating in open spaces and 82,920 mobile businesses.

These enterprises employ hundreds of thousands of people, are driven largely by women and young people, and play a central role in delivering food, goods, and services directly to households.”
