Two persons, including a nurse and an okada rider, have been shot dead by suspected armed robbers at Mpohor in the Mpohor District of the Western Region.
Reports reaching Connect FM indicate that the assailants laid an ambush along the Mpohor road near the Awonakrom School junction, allegedly acting on a tip-off about a gold buyer who had travelled to Tarkwa to sell gold.
The robbers were believed to be waiting to attack and rob the buyer upon his return. The incident occurred on the night of Thursday, March 19, 2026.
According to residents, while lying in wait for their target, the armed men began firing indiscriminately at passing vehicles.
An okada rider, identified only as Kwame Anumde, was shot and killed instantly.
Another victim, Benjamin Peprah, a nurse and resident of Mpohor, was also reportedly shot while driving through the area. He also died on the spot.
The armed robbers fled the scene after the incident.
A member of the Mpohor-Fiase Okada Association, Nana Andoh, confirmed the killing of the rider.
“Last night, at the Awonakrom School junction, one of our members, popularly known as Kwame Anumde was shot dead by armed robbers. They had laid ambush on the road and were shooting at anyone who passed by. Unfortunately, he was hit and died instantly,” he indicated.
The incident has been reported to the police and investigations have been commenced into the matter.
