The Assembly Member for the Sese Electoral Area in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region, Samuel Doomson, has been arrested for alleged involvement in galamsey activities in the area.
He was invited by the Ahanta West District Police Command to answer to allegations of his involvement in illegal mining activities.
Doomson was swiftly handed over to the Western Regional Police Command in Sekondi for further interrogation. Media General’s Takoradi-based radio station, Connect 97.1 FM, reached out to him by phone, and he confirmed his arrest.
According to sources, Doomson was arrested by some National Security operatives this afternoon while riding a motorcycle through the municipal capital.
For the past year, the local assembly has repeatedly cautioned assembly members and traditional authorities over allegations of illegal mining. The Municipal Chief Executive for Ahanta West, Ebenezer Kofi Aidoo, has sworn to fight the menace.
Clarifying the arrest of the assembly member, Aidoo said there is evidence that gives credence to long-held allegations of illegal mining leveled against the accused.
“Now we have evidence he is involved in galamsey. There are audio, video, and pictures to prove it,” he emphasized.
Doomson is currently being processed for court.
