The Akyem Kwabeng Police Command has arrested twelve persons suspected to be engaged in commercial sex work.
The suspects, including five Ghanaian males and seven Nigerian females, were apprehended on the Akyem Kwabeng Catholic road in the Atiwa West district of the Eastern region.
Among the suspects include Princess Henry, 25; Mercy Shaku, 48; Judith Iyo 32; Vivian Winifred 39, and Cynthia Jacob 22.
According to reports, the five Ghanaian men arrested were soliciting the services of these seven women and got arrested during an operation carried out by the police at Akyem Kwabeng.
Police say the arrest followed a targeted swoop on locations believed to be hotshots for prostitution activities within the district.
Police also retrieved some items believed to be connected with the alleged activity during the operation. The 12 will be arraigned at the Osino Magistrate Court for prosecution today, Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Meanwhile, the Atiwa West Police Commander, DSP Sheila Afoley Odai, indicates the operation is part of the ongoing efforts to rid the area of prostitution and other social vices.
