The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has promised to support the Ghana Journalists Association in putting up a befitting press center in the Ashanti Region.

Regional executives of the Association paid homage to the overlord of the Asante Kingdom during the Awukudae observation at the Manhyia Palace.

The delegation was led by the Regional Chairman, Kofi Adu Domfe.

During a brief interaction with the Asantehene, Mr Domfe commended the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his timely intervention in securing land for the construction of a new Press Centre in the region.

He recounted how an earlier project was botched under opaque circumstances.

“We consulted the Lands Commission, and we were informed that the issue had come to Otumfuo, who was not happy about it. He instructed that a new space should be allocated to journalists in the Ashanti Region,” he revealed.

The Ashanti Regional GJA Chair noted that acquisition of a new site would provide journalists in the region with a permanent facility to coordinate their activities and enhance their work.

The delegation also used the occasion to formally introduce the new executives to the Asantehene and sought his blessings for a successful tenure.

They further expressed appreciation for Otumfuo’s role in hosting the 29th GJA Awards in Kumasi, describing the event as historic and instrumental in enhancing the image of journalism in Ghana.
