The Bono Regional Police Command says it has res tored calm following the death of 23-year-old Kwabena Agyei, a suspected illegal miner.

It said in a statement issued on April 14 that on April 13 at about 6:10 p.m, they received a complaint from Mr. Bismark Ofori, the Area council chairman of Akontanim, that on sameday at about 4:30 p.m, he went to the outskirts of Akontanim town and found a lifeless body of young man believed to be in his twenties.

“Upon receipt of the information, Police proceeded to the scene and found the body lying at the Akontanim Chief’s Palace in a supine position, covered with a white bedsheet, with muddy clay smeared on the face, clad in black shorts, with visible marks of assault on the chest and back,” the statement said.

It added that, “Further investigations suggested that the deceased, together with others while engaging in illegal mining activities, were confronted by a team from the Dormaa Traditional Area Anti-Galamsey Taskforce allegedly leading to his death.”

The Command said it has commenced investigations into the suspected murder incident to get the perpetrators arrested.

“The body has since been deposited at the Presbyterian Hospital morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy,” it said.
