The Cement Manufacturers Association of Ghana is calling on the government to review the increases in Free on Board (FOB) values on key raw materials used in the production of cement.
The Association, in a letter addressed to the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, dated Monday, April 13, 2026, expressed concern that the revised FOB values were introduced without adequate consultation, placing significant financial strain on local manufacturers.
The petition, signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Association, George Dawson-Ahmoah, cited cost of clinker, granulated furnace slag among the raw materials seeing much increase in prices, describing them as inconsistent with prevailing global market trends.
With higher duties and taxes, the Association says the adjustments will push up production costs due, directly impacting on prices of cement. It has warned that this could adversely affect the construction, housing and infrastructure sectors, ultimately undermining broader economic activity.
It called for immediate engagement between government and industry players to establish a fair and sustainable pricing framework, while reaffirming the sector’s commitment to supporting the country’s industrialisation agenda.
