Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has sent a strong message to the international community, declaring that the country will not tolerate the mistreatment of its citizens anywhere in the world.

According to him, the government is taking a more assertive approach to protecting the rights and dignity of Ghanaians abroad.

“We have sent a clear message that Ghanaians are untouchable and their rights must be respected,” he said on the KeyPoints with Alfred Ocansey on April 25.

Mr. Ablakwa cited several instances where the Ministry has intervened directly to protect Ghanaian citizens.

These include:

* Negotiating the release of Ghanaian prisoners of war in Ukraine

* Seeking justice for a Ghanaian student killed in Latvia

* Responding to reports of maltreatment of Ghanaians in Israel

He emphasised that Ghana will no longer remain silent when its citizens are abused.

“We will not look the other way when Ghanaians are harassed or their rights are violated,” he stated.

The Minister described the current approach as one rooted in accountability and national pride.

He said every Ghanaian, regardless of where they are in the world, should feel confident that their government will stand by them.

“When you are in trouble abroad, you should know that your country will fight for you,” he said.

Mr. Ablakwa also praised the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, describing his governance style as inspiring and results-driven.

He noted that the administration is focused on delivering tangible outcomes rather than rhetoric.

“It is not about optics. It is about delivery and leaving a lasting impact,” he said.

The Minister added that Ghana’s reputation as a hospitable and respectful nation must be matched by how its citizens are treated globally.

“As we treat foreigners with dignity in Ghana, we expect the same for Ghanaians abroad,” he said.
