Four suspected illegal miners have been arrested during a joint anti-galamsey operation at the Kobro Forest in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.
The operation, conducted on Monday, May 11,2026, by the Ashanti South Police Command in collaboration with Logist Group Company Limited, targeted illegal mining activities within the forest reserve.
According to authorities, the suspects include two alleged kingpins and two labourers who were reportedly engaged in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, in the protected forest area.

The task force also seized two excavators believed to have been used for the illegal operations, while several mining equipment and machines found at the site were destroyed.
The operation, however, was reportedly marred by political interference after highly placed NDC and NADMO officials allegedly intervened and appealed for the release of the suspects, claiming the arrested individuals were their boys.
Speaking to the media after the exercise, the Operations Manager of Logist Group Company Limited, Seth Kofi Adjei, stressed that the suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He lamented that political interference continues to undermine efforts to combat illegal mining and restore degraded lands in the district.
Mr. Adjei disclosed that Logist Group Company Limited, a government-backed land reclamation company, has successfully reclaimed more than 500 acres of forest land destroyed by illegal mining activities.
He further issued a strong warning to illegal miners to stay away from forest reserves and reclaimed lands, emphasizing that the company, together with security agencies, will intensify operations to clamp down on galamsey activities across the Amansie Central District.
