Asante Akyem North Member of Parliament currently detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands, is in stable condition, Parliament’s Majority Chief Whip, has disclosed.
According to Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, his colleague lawmaker is doing well in custody.
He says Parliament has been informed that the MP is safe and has not been manhandled by the Netherlands authorities following his detention.
“He is well, he is not being acuted. He is fine, he is just in detention, nothing untoward has happened to him,” he told Joy FM on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Mr. Dafeamekpor has explained that Ghanaian authorities and other stakeholders are being engaged on the development, adding that information available to them indicates Ohene was detained on a warrant issued by the United States of America (USA).
Meanwhile, the content of the warrant, the Majority Chief Whip noted, is yet to be known by the House.
A statement issued by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, noted that the matter had been brought to the attention of the House and was currently being addressed by parliamentary leadership.
