A 38-year-old man, Emmanuel Cudjoe, has died under controversial circumstances while in police custody at the Agyeikrom Police Station in the Central region.

Cudjoe, a native of Anto in the Shama district of the Western region, had reportedly relocated to Ayensudo after starting a family with his girlfriend.

Speaking with Connect FM’s Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, the deceased’s elder brother, Isaac Cudjoe, revealed that Emmanuel and his partner had been facing frequent domestic disputes despite ongoing family efforts to resolve their differences.

According to him, Emmanuel had recently rented another room at Agyeikrom to temporarily stay there pending the completion of their marriage rites.

However, on Sunday dawn, May 10, around 4:00 a.m., Emmanuel allegedly called his brother to say he had been arrested following allegations made by his girlfriend and was being detained at the Agyeikrom Police Station.

The family later learned that Emmanuel had been accused of allegedly having a sexual relationship with his girlfriend’s 11-year-old daughter.

Isaac Cudjoe further claimed that their mother visited the police station later that day but was denied access to Emmanuel.

Shockingly, the family says they were later informed that Emmanuel had died in police custody.

According to the family, police claimed Emmanuel allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a strip torn from a blanket inside the cell.

The grieving family is now demanding a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Meanwhile, the Central Regional Police Command has confirmed the incident and says investigations are ongoing.

Police stated that Emmanuel Cudjoe was arrested on May 10, 2026, over alleged defilement and was later found dead in the cell around 11:00 a.m.

The police added that the Regional Crime Scene Management Team visited the scene and observed no visible marks of violence on the body.

The body has since been deposited at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
