Family of a mobile money robbery suspect are accusing the Kasoa Divisional Police Command of killing their relative who was in their custody.

23-year-old Godfred Okai, according to the family, died as a result of severe brutalities from the police on their realtive who is innocent of the crime he is being accused of.

The family is calling on the police hierarchy to thoroughly investigate the matter to unearth the truth.

An Onua News report on December 20, 2022, revealed a mobile money vendor was shot by three armed robbers on a motorbike, making away with an undisclosed amount of money at Adam Nana, a suburb of Kasoa in the Central region.

According to the family, the police broke into the deceased’s room on Friday, December 23, and arrested him without disclosing where they were sending him to.

Meanwhile, they had directed the family to wrong police stations including the national headquarters which they followed up with no sight of him.

A police team, however, reached out to the family on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, and invited them to the Kasoa Divisional Police Command where they were informed that Godfred had fallen ill and died whilst in custody.

A sister who shared the same room with Godfred on the night of his arrest believes his brother might have died as a result of the beatings he was given by the police. She accuses the officers of severely brutalizing the deceased even at the point of arrest.

When contacted, the Kasoa Divisional Commander, Chief Supt. Charles Koosonu referred this reporter to the Central East Regional Commander, ACP David Eklu. Efforts to reach him as at the time of filing this report were unsuccessful.
