Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral project, Apostle Prof. Kwadwo Nimfour Opoku Onyinah, has said the opposition being faced over the construction of the edifice is biblical.

He says opposition to things of God have existed throughout the Bible and what is being encountered by the ongoing project is not news.

The former Chairman of the Church of Pentecost during a Bible Reading Marathon at the Cathedral grounds said he is elated anytime such hindrances came up, God raised up people to the rescue of the projects.

The man of God is confident the project would be built irrespective of the issues emanating out of it.

“You can never do something for the Lord without opposition. So opposition is normal. You should go through the Bible, you’ll see that once God wants to do something, there is an opposition. So opposition will continue but thank God that in the midst of the oppositions, God also raises some people who are able to support,” he indicated.

Some GH₵400 million has already been spent on the project but has not gone beyond the foundation level.

Many Ghanaians have raised concerns over the ransom being wasted on the project without evidence of progress of work especially in these times of economic turmoil in the country.

Some have held the Cathedral be suspended for now without wasting state funds especially when it is a personal promise by the President.

During the 2023 Budget presentation in Parliament, government earmarked some GH₵80 million through the Ministry of Tourism for the cathedral but was shot down by the Minority.

The amount has since been pushed to the Ministry of Housing.
