A solar energy systems expert in Ghana, Mr. Kobina Nyanteh, has stated that one of the best solutions to the country’s energy crisis is the widespread adoption of solar energy systems.

He therefore called on the government to adopt solar energy as a national policy to help address the persistent energy challenges facing the country.

Speaking on the Ghanakoma Morning Show on Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi with Sir John on Friday, May 15, 2026, Mr. Nyanteh said the ongoing energy crisis is creating serious difficulties for businesses and households, and stressed the need for effective and lasting measures to resolve the problem.

He urged Ghanaians to change their perception that solar energy is too expensive or unsuitable for adoption in the country. He said solar technology is advanced and reliable.

Mr. Kobina Nyanteh, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Translight Solar Limited, explained that the minimum household electricity requirement of about 1,500 watts could be met through the use of solar panels, inverters, batteries, and related equipment at affordable prices.

He further stated that it was time for Ghana to reduce its heavy dependence on fossil fuel for electricity generation.

He cited countries and regions such asGermany, Norway, Costa Rica, Paraguay, and Kenya as examples of places that had successfully embraced renewable energy and urged the government to emulate their example.

Some industry players who also contributed to the discussion noted that Ghana was blessed with abundant sunshine and appealed to the government to harness this natural resource to support the country’s development needs.

They also urged the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to invest significantly in solar energy production and distribution to consumers in order to supplement the country’s hydroelectric power supply.
