Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo has stressed the importance of balancing what he described as the “three Ms” in politics, message, messenger and machinery, to secure electoral victory.

Speaking on who leads the NDC, Mr. Tameklo said every successful election campaign depends on a strong candidate, a compelling message and an effective party structure.

According to him, political parties that fail to strike the right balance among the three components risk defeat, regardless of the popularity of their presidential candidate.

“In every election, there are three things that matter, your message, the messenger and the machinery,” he stated.

He explained that even the best presidential candidate could struggle if the party machinery is weak or broken.

“If you go into an election with the best presidential candidate but a broken party, the results will be terrible,” he said.

Mr. Tameklo also indicated that parties with poor messaging could equally lose public confidence despite having strong candidates.

“You can go into an election with the best candidate, but your message is problematic, you come back,” he added.

He further argued that a strong party structure and good message alone would not be enough if the candidate presented to the electorate lacks credibility or appeal.

“You can also have a situation where the party is sound, great message, but the candidate is problematic, you’re going to have disaster,” he noted.

The NPA boss said political parties must constantly work to maintain a balance among the three factors.

“At every point in time as a political party, whatever we do, we want to have a balance between these three Ms, a great messenger, a great machine and a great message,” he stressed.

Touching on the political climate following the 2024 elections, Mr. Tameklo claimed the performance of the previous New Patriotic Party administration remains fresh in the minds of Ghanaians.

“The record regrettably of the dubious extension of the NPP government that we just saw is still fresh in the minds of people,” he said.

Despite the political contest ahead, he expressed confidence that the right leader would eventually emerge to lead the party into future elections.

“At the right time, a leader will emerge in the end and that leader will have the support of all of us,” he stated.

Mr. Tameklo added that many of the individuals currently being considered for leadership positions possess qualities such as vision and commitment to public service.

“Almost all the people we have seen so far are good servants, visionary people,” he added.
