The National Identification Authority (NIA) has commenced a one-month mop-up registration exercise for eligible Ghanaian children who were unable to register during the main registration exercise.

The exercise, which began on June 4, 2026, will run until July 3, 2026, and forms part of the Authority’s efforts to ensure that no eligible Ghanaian child is left out of the National Identification System.

The mop-up exercise is being held after the Authority successfully concluded registration exercise for Ghanaian children aged 6–14 years in the Volta and Oti Regions.

In a statement issued on June 4, 2026, NIA said the registration will be conducted in selected districts across the Volta and Oti regions.

In the Volta Region, the exercise will cover South Tongu, Adaklu, Ketu South, Akatsi South, Kpando Municipal, Hohoe Municipal, South Dayi, North Tongu, North Dayi, Afadzato South, Central Tongu, Ho West and Ho Municipal.

The exercise will also take place in the Oti Region, specifically in Krachi Nchumuru, Kadjebi, Biakoye, Krachi East, Nkwanta South, Guan, Nkwanta North, Jasikan and Krachi West.

Registration will be conducted at designated schools and registration centres within the affected districts from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily throughout the exercise period.

The NIA emphasised that the registration is strictly reserved for Ghanaian children and cautioned the public against providing false information or assisting non-Ghanaians to register.

The Authority warned that individuals who knowingly facilitate the registration of non-Ghanaians or provide fraudulent information commit an offence and may face prosecution under the law.

The NIA reiterated its commitment to developing a secure, inclusive and reliable National Identity Register that ensures every eligible Ghanaian is properly identified, protected and counted in national records.
