The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has announced to the public, transport operators, commuters and all road users that a section of the Kumasi-Ejura Road at Sataso has been temporarily closed to traffic following severe damage caused by recent heavy rainfall.

The closure became necessary after a section of the road at Sataso was washed away during torrential rains on 30th May 2026.

In response, emergency restoration works were initiated, including the construction of a temporary diversion to maintain traffic movement. However, sustained and intense rainfall over the past three days washed away the temporary culvert installed within the diversion, rendering the affected section impassable to vehicular traffic.

This is contained in a press release dated June 11, issued by the Public Affairs Division of the Ghana Highway Authority.

“To safeguard Road users and allow for urgent reconstruction works, the Authority has temporarily closed the affected section until further notice,” the statement indicated.

“Motorists travelling between Kumasi and Ejura are advised to use the following diversion: Kumasi – Mampong – Kofiase – Anyinasu – Sekyeredumase – Aframso – Ejura. Motorists travelling from Ejura towards Kumasi should use the same route in the reverse direction,” the Authority advised.

The Ghana Highway Authority urged all motorists to:

• Obey all traffic management protocols along the diversion route by adhering to speed limits.

• Cooperate with traffic management personnel and security agencies deployed to assist road users.

“The Ghana Highway Authority, together with the contractor, are working around the clock to restore the damaged section and reopen the road to traffic as soon as practicable. The Authority regrets the inconvenience caused and appreciates the patience, understanding, and cooperation of the travelling public,”t the GHA stated.
