The Savannah Regional Health Directorate (SRHD) of the Ghana Health Service has urged members of the general public who have any information regarding the whereabouts of a baby stolen from the East Gonja District Hospital in Salaga to report to the nearest Police station.

This is contained in a press release dated June 11.

“The Savannah Regional Health Directorate (SRHD) of the Ghana Health Service regrets to announce an unfortunate incident involving a missing newborn at the East Gonja District Hospital in Salaga on 10th June 2026.

Following the report of the incident, an immediate search was conducted within the facility. However, the efforts did not yield any results, and the matter was subsequently reported to the East Gonja District Police Command for investigation.

The Regional Health Directorate therefore appeals to members of the public who may have any information regarding the whereabouts of the missing baby to contact the nearest Police Station, the Savannah Regional Health Directorate, or the East Gonja District Hospital immediately. Any information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality,” the statement indicated.

The Service expressed its “deepest sympathies to the parents and family of the baby during this difficult period and assures them of its full support as investigations continue.”

The Savannah Regional Health Directorate assured that it is working closely with the hospital management, the Ghana Police Service, and other relevant stakeholders to locate the missing baby and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The Directorate wishes to reassure the public that the safety, security, and well-being of patients, newborns, and all clients of the health service remain a top priority of the Ghana Health Service,” it added.

The Ghana Health Service noted that it remains committed to supporting all efforts aimed at reuniting the baby with the family and ensuring that the necessary investigations are thoroughly conducted.
