Youth unemployment is one of Ghana’s most pressing challenges, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has said.

He has therefore called for urgent action to address this situation.

Presenting a statement on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, June 11, he cited recent labour statistics showing increasing unemployment among young people and stressed the need for practical and sustainable job creation measures.

Oppong Nkrumah urged the government to strengthen existing employment programmes through clear performance targets, greater private sector involvement, skills development linked to job opportunities, and improved labour market information systems.

“The governments job programs are not delivering on the promises of 250,000 jobs a year. They need to sit up and stop the settings,” he subsequently wrote on his X page.

He noted that young Ghanaians are seeking meaningful and well-paying jobs and called for a renewed national strategy to tackle unemployment and create opportunities for the country’s growing youth population.

Other Members who contributed to the statement include Hon. Eric Afful, MP for Amenfi West, Hon. Samuel Abdulai Jinapor MP for Damongo, Hon. Samuel Awuku MP for Akuapim North and Hon. Sampson Ahi MP for Bodi
