The Tamale Circuit court has granted bail to the two midwives arrested for their alleged involvement in the baby theft incident at the Salaga Government Hospital.

Police in Salaga on June 10, 2026 arrested two midwives in connection with alleged incident of a stolen baby at the Salaga Municipal Hospital.

The incident took place on June 10.

Speaking in an interview with 3news, DSP Gabriel Alorsey confirmed the incident and said the two suspects will be arraigned on June 11.

“We have arrested two midwives. One male and one female. We are keeping them because they are giving conflicting accounts. They are suspects. We will take them to court tomorrow morning,” he said.

The baby as of now has not yet been found.

Meanwhile family of the missing baby have given a three day ultimatum to the hospital management to produce the baby or have themselves to blame.

During a peaceful protest to the hospital and police station on Tuesday June 17, the protesters threatened to destabilize the peace of the hospital if the baby is not produced within the three days.

On Sunday June, 15, Member of parliament for Salaga, Zuweira Ibrahima, was chased out of the Kulpi community when she went to sympathize with the family.

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, a new born baby reportedly went missing at the Salaga Government Hospital.

According to hospital officials, the newborn baby was placed in a tray at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where she was kept on oxygen.

Reports also suggest that two staff on duty at the maternity ward comprising a midwife and a NICU staff who were on duty at the time abandoned the baby to attend to some personal issues.

Few minutes later the baby was nowhere to be found after the two went to check on her. The two midwives were then arrested.
