The Society of Private Medical and Dental Practitioners-Ghana in the Upper East region has presented food items and cash to the Sirigu Children’s Home in the Kassena Nankana West district of the Upper East region.
The group also provided an intensive health screening for the children and caretakers at the facility.
As a society of more than 500 people on the association’s registry, the health and security of the vulnerable is of paramount importance, and visiting places where the underprivileged lack certain health needs forms part of the society’s core mandate.
The Society, aside from the donations to the orphanage, screened the children for eye disorders, hearing capabilities, and checked blood levels (hemoglobin).
Serious cases identified were referred to facilities belonging to members of the society for further examination and care.
The Upper East Regional Chairman of the Society, Dr. Aduko Amiah of Amiah Hospital, outlined the core objectives of the Society and its relevance to healthcare.
“We are here to present a token to the orphanage of Sirigu, Parish. There are a few items we are donating.
They donated items including a bag of corn, a bag of sugar, a bag of rice, assorted soft drinks, biscuits, oil, and soap and a cash price of 1,000 Cedis.
“We hear about them, and we are here to support. It’s like how we sit in the consulting room to see the sick. We think they also need institutional support. That’s why we are offering the minimum we can,” Dr. Amiah said.
He explained that “one of our core responsibilities is to ensure that health reaches everybody in this country at every corner that we find ourselves. We are preparing towards our annual general conference, and as a society, we are mandated to show ourselves in the community.”
Formed by a small group of people in 1968, Dr. Amiah said the Society can now boast of over 500 people.
“As a society, the health and security of the vulnerable is very important. That’s why we thought presenting this token wasn’t enough; the health screening is still ongoing, and we hope it’ll be successful,” a member of the society stated.
A representative of the Sirigu Children’s Home thanked the Society for showing love and care to the children, saying God will bless the Society and its activities. She assured the Society that they would make good use of the items and cash for the children’s betterment.
