As environmental challenges continue to threaten ecosystems worldwide, a coalition of organizations in Ghana are demonstrating how local action can drive lasting change and position coastal areas as attractive tourism destinations.

In commemoration of World Environment Day 2026, Dream Hunt Ghana, in partnership with Wesley Grammar School, successfully organized a Beach Clean-Up Exercise at the Dansoman Beach, bringing together stakeholders from across the community to promote environmental sustainability and climate action.

The exercise witnessed active participation from Assembly Members, the Assemblyman, representatives of the Municipal Assembly, staff of Cummins Ghana, students of Wesley Grammar School, community members, and the dedicated team from Dream Hunt Ghana.

The initiative demonstrated the power of collaboration in addressing environmental challenges and protecting Ghana’s coastline.

The clean-up exercise was organized under the global theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” Participants worked together to remove plastic waste, bottles, fishing debris, sachet water plastics, and other forms of litter that had accumulated along the shoreline.

Much of the waste collected had been washed ashore from the sea through ocean currents and drainage systems, highlighting the growing impact of climate change, marine pollution, and poor waste management practices on coastal communities.

As part of responsible environmental management, all collected waste was carefully segregated according to type, including plastics, bottles, and other recyclable materials.

The segregation process was aimed at promoting recycling and ensuring proper waste handling. Following the exercise, the waste was handed over to an authorized waste collector for transportation and disposal at an approved refuse dump site.

A significant highlight of the event was the tree-planting exercise. Participants born in the month of June celebrated their birthdays by planting coconut trees along the coastline.

The symbolic gesture served as a commitment to environmental conservation and climate resilience while contributing to coastal restoration efforts. Coconut trees play an important role in protecting shorelines from erosion, improving biodiversity, and enhancing carbon sequestration.

To further strengthen environmental education and sustainable waste management within the community, Dream Hunt Ghana donated waste segregation bins to the beach community.

The bins were uniquely designed with pictures and inscriptions translated into the Ga language, making them easily understandable and accessible to community members. This innovative approach aims to encourage proper waste disposal practices and ensure that residents can easily identify the appropriate bins for different types of waste.

Speaking during the event, representatives emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing climate change and environmental degradation.

They noted that protecting beaches and marine ecosystems is essential for safeguarding livelihoods, promoting tourism, preserving biodiversity, and ensuring healthier communities.

The successful exercise also contributed directly to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The Dansoman Beach Clean-Up Exercise serves as a reminder that environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility. Through continued collaboration, awareness creation, and practical action, communities can play a vital role in building a cleaner, healthier, and more climate-resilient future for all.
