The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the Western North Region will receive its first regional hospital under the government’s 2026 healthcare infrastructure expansion programme.

The announcement was made during the Minister’s free primary healthcare tour of the region, where he revealed that Western North is among the first three newly created regions selected to benefit from the project.

According to the Minister, the new regional hospital is expected to significantly improve access to quality specialist healthcare services, reduce referrals to other regions, and strengthen healthcare delivery across the Western North Region.

Mr. Akandoh urged traditional authorities to ensure that land allocated for the project is properly documented and legally secured to prevent future ownership disputes that could delay construction.

Responding to the announcement, the Acting Paramount Chief of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, Nana Ofori Ahenkan II, pledged the full support of the traditional council.

He assured the government that suitable land would be made available and properly protected to ensure the successful execution of the project.

The planned regional hospital forms part of the government’s broader efforts to bridge healthcare infrastructure gaps and improve access to quality medical services in newly created regions.
