Lawyers for former NAFCO Chief Executive Officer, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, have described his arrest at the Accra airport as unlawful and are threatening contempt proceedings against the Attorney-General, his deputy and the Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

In a press release dated 5 July 2026, the firm of Dame & Partners disputed the account given by Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai on his Facebook page, describing it as containing falsehoods.

According to the lawyers, Mr Aludiba had been granted permission by the High Court, presided over by Justice Achibonga, to travel to the United Kingdom from 4 to 12 July 2026 for a medical appointment, following an order dated 29 June 2026.

The firm said the claim that Mr Aludiba attempted to use false means to empty a frozen bank account with Republic Bank was untrue, and challenged the Deputy Attorney-General to produce evidence of any withdrawal since the date of the court order.

The lawyers further argued that there is no valid court order freezing Mr Aludiba’s accounts, noting that earlier freezing orders lapsed when charges against him were withdrawn on May 5, 2026. They said fresh charges filed on May 15, 2026 began a new process, and that the High Court, Adentan, presided over by Justice Kwame Osei Gyamfi, had indicated on May 20, 2026 that no valid freezing order existed.

The firm said it had already written to EOCO’s Executive Director on the matter roughly two weeks earlier.

Describing the arrest as part of a pattern of interference by the Attorney-General’s office, the lawyers said they would pursue contempt proceedings against the officials involved.
