Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has urged Ministers of State to express concern about the Finance Minister’s comment about not spending money.
Addressing the House after the mid-year budget presentation on Thursday, July 23, Afenyo-Markin said the Finance Minister’s statement that the “true measure of a finance minister is not determined by how much he spent” must cause worry to the Ministers of State.
“He (Finance Minister) has just told this House that the true measure of a finance minister is not determined by how much he spent. Such a statement must cause palpitations among Ministers of State,” Afenyo-Markin said.
“Mr. Speaker, basically what he is telling Ministers is that he is not going to spend, he is not going to release funds to you,” he added.
According to the Effutu MP, Ministers of State are already being denied enough funds to manage their various ministries and will be rendered redundant.
“Already you are suffering and will be redundant in your various ministries.”
“His deputy minister told the nation that GHC1.6 billion was released to the Agric Ministry, today he said GHC1 billion.”
