Police officers in Tema have shot dead a suspected armed robber during an exchange of gunfire at Zenu Obatan in the early hours of July 15, following an intelligence-led operation to foil a planned robbery.
This was revealed on Thursday, July 23, 2026, by the Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Eric Asamoah Asiedu, during a press briefing on recent anti-crime operations in the region.
According to police, the Zenu Atadeka Police Command received intelligence on the night of July 14, 2026, about a planned robbery in the area and immediately mounted surveillance operations on July 15 and 16.
During the operation, officers encountered four armed suspects. Police said the suspects opened fire on the team, prompting officers to return fire in self-defence.
One of the suspects was fatally shot during the exchange, while the others fled the scene, with some believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Tema Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Police also recovered weapons and other items from the scene, which have been retained as exhibits to aid ongoing investigations.
The Command has alerted all health facilities within the district to report anyone seeking treatment for gunshot wounds, as efforts continue to track down and arrest the remaining suspects.
