President of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), Ing. Ludwig Annang Hesse, says increased investment in gas supply and the power sector could reduce electricity generation costs by 75 per cent.

He says it could also reduce lower consumer tariffs by between 10 and 20 per cent, boosting industrial productivity and easing the cost of electricity for households.

Speaking on Business Focus on TV3 Monday, July 27, 2026, Ing. Hesse said the increased supply of gas to the power sector is expected to significantly reduce the cost of electricity generation by as much as 75 per cent.

The President,described ongoing investments in Ghana’s energy infrastructure as a positive step towards improving electricity affordability and supporting industrialisation.

According to him, if the savings are reflected in electricity tariffs, industries and households will benefit from lower power costs.

He also noted that electricity tariffs could decline by between 10 and 20 percent, a development he said would encourage higher industrial production and enhance Ghana’s industrialisation agenda.

Ing Hesse further observed that the country’s electricity infrastructure has recorded modest improvements. He said the power sector’s rating on the GhIE Infrastructure Report Card improved from B2 to B1, attributing the progress largely to developments in electricity generation and supply.

Despite the gains, the GhIE President stressed the need for greater transparency and accountability in the execution of infrastructure projects.

“It is not only good to do things, but it is important to do them well and do them right,” he said, adding that transparent procurement processes are essential to guarantee value for money, cost-effectiveness and public confidence.

Ing Hesse, however, expressed optimism that the projects would be successfully completed, noting that funding has been secured to ensure their execution.
