A 70-year-old woman Maame Afua Akyere, has been found dead on a cocoa farm after she reportedly went missing while on her way to church at Akyem Koforidua Akura, a suburb of the Asene Manso Akroso District on Sunday, July 26 in the Eastern Region.
According to family members, the deceased left home to attend a church service but failed to return by 6:00pm, which they described as unusual since she normally returned home around midday.
Her failure to return prompted relatives and residents to organize a search in nearby farms and bushes on Sunday evening. However, she was not found until Monday morning.
Her body was later discovered under a tree in a cocoa farm under disturbing circumstances, with blood oozing from her eyes.
The discovery sent shockwaves through the community, as residents gathered at the scene in disbelief.
The family further alleged that the body had been tampered with.
They suspect that some body parts may have been removed by the perpetrators, although this has not been confirmed by investigators and health personnel.
“We suspect parts of her body were cut off and taken away by her attackers. We demand justice and urge the police to arrest those behind this heinous crime,” a family member said.
Police officers who visited the scene have since commenced investigations into the incident after receiving a report.
Police personnel examined the area before conveying the body to the morgue for preservation and autopsy to aid investigations.
