The Eastern Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Tony Osei-Adjei, says constituency executive elections are underway in 29 of the party’s 33 constituencies in the Eastern Region.

According to him, while the elections are generally progressing smoothly, four constituencies have recorded different developments.

The Akyem Swedru Constituency election has been put on hold following a court injunction over the electoral area coordinator elections.

In the Akyem Oda Constituency, voting has been rescheduled to next week after the party extended the election date to allow contestants adequate time to prepare following the death of the Member of Parliament’s Personal Assistant.

At Abetifi, there was no contest, with constituency executives elected by acclamation on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Akropong Constituency is expected to hold its election on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Speaking to the media, Tony Osei-Adjei said, “The remaining 29 constituencies are conducting their constituency executive elections today without any overwhelming challenge. Yesterday we had acclamation at Abetifi. For Akyem Swedru, there was an injunction placed on the electoral area coordinator elections, and the court is expected to deliver its judgment on the 20th of next month. Once that is done, it will pave the way for the constituency election.”

Addressing concerns raised by some delegates over discrepancies in the delegates’ register, the Regional Secretary acknowledged that minor issues were expected but said they would not derail the electoral process.

He explained that the party had engaged officials of the Electoral Commission and district election directors to resolve the concerns.

According to him, polling stations with issues likely to disrupt voting have been temporarily put on hold, while elections continue in areas where the required quorum has been met.

“We are a human institution, so we expect to have some issues and discrepancies. I have held discussions with the EC District Directors, the Regional Electoral Commission, and the Party’s National representatives here to resolve them.

Where there are issues that could hinder the progress of the elections, those areas may be put on hold. We have more than the required two thirds quorum, so after today’s elections, we will deal with the outstanding issues,” he assured.

The NPP’s constituency executive elections form part of the party’s internal reorganisation ahead of future electoral activities.
