The Management of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has disclosed that two car park workers of the company have been dismissed for asking for money from passengers outside the approved payment processes.

The action follows repeated complaints from travellers over workers allegedly begging for or demanding money from passengers.

Speaking to journalists during a visit by Parliament’s Committee on Roads and Transportation on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the Managing Director of GACL, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare said the company remains committed to eliminating the practice.

She called on the public to assist the company deal with unethical behaviours of workers at the airport.

“Just about two weeks ago, we have about two people expelled from the airport as car park workers who asks passengers for money. And instantly, because we were able to zero in on the people, we were able to have them leave the airport immediately. So, we are asking the general public to help us address these issues,” she stated.

Nana Afriyie Opare further called on travellers to demand receipts and capture the identities of personnel who demand tips to help authorities tackle extortion at the airports.

According to the company, the absence of sufficient evidence from complainants makes it difficult to identify offenders and take decisive disciplinary action.

“We are also asking that the person who is asked for the money require a receipt. This is one of the ways to stop people from extortion. That receipt can be brought to the attention if management and we can use that as evidence,” she noted.

The Managing Director of GACL urged passengers to promptly report such incidents to enable management to take appropriate action against culprits.

“If you are asked for any tip, find out which agency the person belongs to, also get the person’s name and the ID cards have the agency they work for. Try and capture the ID cards of the person and report.

“We are going to put out a hotline that you can report these instances to,” Yvonne stressed.
