The Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has imposed a curfew on some communities in the municipality, following a communal clash that claimed one life and injured six others.
The affected areas include Damankunyili, Nyeshie, and adjoining communities in the Northern region.
The clashes are believed to have stemmed from a longstanding land dispute, with the Damankungyili and Nyeshie communities laying claim to the same parcel of land.
Following the clashes between the two communities, the Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday, August 4.
A statement signed by the Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of MUSEC, Abdulai Imoro Gong, after the meeting, condemned the violence and extended condolences to the bereaved family, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
To help restore calm and prevent further escalation, the council has announced a daily curfew from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. until further notice.
It has also placed a ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons in the affected areas.
In addition, joint police patrols have been intensified to enforce the curfew and maintain law and order.
