The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with the alleged robbery of a mobile money vendor and murder of two people at Fiapre-Zongo, a suburb of Sunyani Municipality in the Bono Region.
The arrests followed a swift police operation after officers received a distress call at about 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, reporting an ongoing robbery at Fiapre.
Personnel responded swiftly to the scene; however, the perpetrators had fled prior to the arrival of the officer.
The attack was targeted at a mobile money vendor, Amina Abu, 30.
Investigations revealed that Amina Abu was attacked and robbed of GHC30,000.00 in cash.
The other victims who sustained injuries after being hit by pellets from the gunshots were; Khadija Abu, 23; Anifa Tanko, 24; and Ibrahim Osei, 40.
During further search behind Ibrahim Osei’s house, an unidentified man was found with a black mask lying down with severe injuries.
All five victims were rushed to the Regional Teaching Hospital for medical attention. Six spent BB casings were recovered and have been retained as exhibits for forensic examination.
While the suspects were fleeing the scene, Ibrahim Osei came out of his room, was shot, and died on arrival at the hospital.
The unidentified man also died while receiving treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects got off a cattle truck heading towards Berekum direction to commit the crime.
The Twumasikrom checkpoint was alerted to intercept two vehicles carrying cattle. Nine suspects have been arrested to assist with investigation into the incident. They will be processed for prosecution.
The bodies have been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy.
The command assures the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining perpetrators who are still at large and bring them to face the full rigours of the law.
