Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has upheld the revocation of Adamus Resources’ mining lease, following a report by the Ministerial Review Committee which was set up to consider the company’s appeal.
According to the Minister, the Committee affirmed most of the breaches identified in the initial assessment, a development that informed the Minerals Commission’s takeover of the mine’s operations.
This comes after the Government revoked Adamus Resources’ mining lease over some alleged breaches of the terms and conditions governing their operations.
At a working visit to Adamus Mine at Salman in the Ellembelle District, the Lands Minister said the review process was undertaken to ensure all concerns raised by the company were properly considered before a final decision was taken.
Mr. Buah explained that the Committee’s observations were in congruent with the earlier decision to revoke the lease, paving way for the Minerals Commission to assume responsibility for the mine.
“Following the report of the Minerals Commission to the Chief Inspector of Mines, and with recommendations of the great violation of the Mining Act and mining regulations. A recommendation for revocation of some mining leases was made.
“The Minister agreed with them; there was a petition, and we formed the ministerial review committee. That work has come to an end. As a Minister, I have concluded to uphold the revocation. What that means is that the Minerals Commission should, with immediate effect, take administrative control of this Mine,” he said.
The takeover is part of the Government’s efforts to ensure the country’s mineral resources are managed in the national interest and contribute meaningfully to economic development and wellbeing of host communities.
Meanwhile, government is making plans to revitalise the Adamus Mine to restore production, create jobs and generate economic opportunities for residents within the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area, and the country as a whole.
Minister Buah was accompanied by officials of the Minerals Commission and other stakeholders to assess the situation at the mine and determine the way forward.
