Media General’s Kumasi-based Akoma 87.9 FM has officially launched its 7th anniversary celebration, marking years of dedicated public service broadcasting, impactful journalism, and unwavering commitment to community development in the Ashanti Region and beyond.

The launch took place on Monday, August 10,2026 in the studio of Akoma FM.

The event brought together Management, staff, distinguished guests, development partners, and loyal listeners to reflect on the station’s journey since its establishment on August 10, 2019.

The station has made immense contribution to national development through credible news, education, and entertainment.

The anniversary celebration is expected to feature a series of activities aimed at celebrating the station’s rich legacy while strengthening its bond with the communities it serves.

As Akoma 87.9 FM celebrates this significant milestone, it reaffirms its commitment to delivering quality public service broadcasting and remaining the trusted voice of the people for generations to come.

The launching coincided with the unveiling of special Friday wear for the Management and staff of the station.

Other activities include cutting of cake, Special get together for staff, Management and listeners, Akoma Fufu Party to be held on August 22,2026 at the forecourt of Amakom M/A Basic School, and climax of activities on 30th August, 2026 at the Garrison Presbyterian/Methodist Church.

The Head of Station Akoma FM, Ransford Nana Osei Asare, said the vision with which the anniversary was launched would enable the radio station continue to make a positive impact in society and contribute to the country’s democratic growth.

He said since its inception in 2019, the station had remained committed to a clear mission of operating an effective, sustainable, and community radio broadcasting footprint.

He stated that the radio station over the years, has expanded its reach to many parts of Ashanti and other places.

Akoma 87.9 FM has become a platform where voices are lifted, ideas are exchanged, and communities are empowered”, he said.
