The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced planned power outages in parts of the Ashanti Region to facilitate the completion of the 161kV Anwomaso–Ahodwo (K1–K2) Transmission Line Upgrade Project.
The project, which is being undertaken under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, has reached 70 per cent completion and is expected to be completed by the end of November 2026.
In a joint statement on Thursday, October 29, 2026, GRIDCo and ECG said the planned interruptions are necessary to ensure the safe execution of critical works involving the stringing of transmission conductors on towers along the project route.
The outages are scheduled to commence on Friday, October 30, 2026, and continue until Sunday, November 29, 2026, excluding weekends.
According to the statement, affected communities will experience power interruptions between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on specific days when construction activities reach their respective sections of the transmission line.
The two utility companies explained that the temporary outages are essential to protect engineers, other project personnel and members of the public during the conductor-stringing operations.
ECG is expected to publish a detailed schedule indicating the affected communities and their corresponding outage dates to enable consumers to make the necessary arrangements.
GRIDCo and ECG have appealed to residents, businesses and other electricity consumers in the affected areas to exercise patience and cooperate with the project teams throughout the period.
They acknowledged that the interruptions could cause inconvenience to households and businesses but stressed that the works are critical to strengthening the transmission network and improving the reliability of electricity supply in Kumasi and its surrounding communities.
The companies apologised for the inconvenience and assured the public of their commitment to completing the project safely and within the scheduled timeframe.
The Anwomaso–Ahodwo transmission line upgrade forms part of efforts to improve electricity transmission infrastructure in the Ashanti Region and enhance the reliability of power supply to consumers.
