President John Dramani Mahama has called for international cooperation and solidarity in the fight against terrorism, especially in the territories of the Alliance of Sahelian States.
He indicates the world is currently plagued by conflict and insecurity, which has caused death and considerable suffering in various theatres of war and severely disrupted global logistics and value chains.
Speaking at the third Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow on Thursday, October 29, 2026, President Mahama said Ghana is concerned about the growing threat of terrorism in the Sahel region.
“Mr. President, the world is currently plagued by conflict and insecurity. This has caused death and considerable suffering in various theatres of war. It has also severely disrupted global logistics and value chains,” he said.
He called for an amicable resolution of the various conflicts ongoing around the world, while expressing appreciation for efforts towards peace in the conflict with Ukraine.
“Mr. President, we appreciate your willingness to resume trilateral talks in respect of the conflict with Ukraine and your call for a lasting peace agreement and security for both Russia and Ukraine,” he noted.
President Mahama stressed the need for collective action to combat terrorism in the Sahel, saying: “We also call for international cooperation and solidarity in the fight against terrorism, especially in the territories of the Alliance of Sahelian States.”
He further stated that Ghana approaches such cooperation guided by a tradition of non-alignment, respect for sovereignty, equality and a commitment to peaceful international cooperation.
