President John Dramani Mahama has said Ghana’s foreign engagements will continue to be guided by its long-standing principle of non-alignment and peaceful cooperation.
He comments that the country is not leaning towards any bloc but will work with every nation that respects its sovereignty and supports its development agenda.
Speaking at the third Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow on Thursday, October 29, 2026, President Mahama said Ghana’s approach to international relations is rooted in mutual respect and the pursuit of shared prosperity.
“Ghana approaches these discussions guided by a tradition of non-alignment, respect for sovereignty, equality, and a commitment to peaceful international cooperation. We seek friendship with all countries and partnerships that advance our development priorities,” he said.
According to him, Ghana values cooperation that brings tangible benefits to its people while preserving its independence in global affairs.
He noted that while the summit opens opportunities for deeper ties with Russia, Ghana remains open to partnerships across the world.
His comments come as Ghana prepares to celebrate 70 years of independence in 2027 as the first sub-Saharan African country to break free from colonial domination.
