The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects and recorded the death of another in a crackdown on an armed robbery syndicate operating in parts of the Wa West District and Wa Municipality.
The arrests followed months of intelligence-led and coordinated operations by the Police in response to a series of robbery attacks in which victims were reportedly attacked and wounded with machetes before being forced to disclose their Mobile Money (MoMo) PINs.
According to the Police in a statement signed by DCOP Francis Yiribaare, Upper West Regional Police Commander, the suspects subsequently used the victims’ PINs to transfer money from their accounts into MoMo accounts allegedly controlled by the robbers.
The six suspects identified by the Police are 35-year-old Amadu Moro, 40-year-old Adama Yussif, 52-year-old Nasiru Abdul Rahman, 35-year-old Iddrissu Adama, 20-year-old Korika Issaka, and 21-year-old Zakaria Brigi.
The Police said Nasiru Abdul Rahman sustained injuries during the operation and died upon arrival at the Upper West Regional Hospital.
His body has since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Preliminary investigations have linked Adama Yussif, Amadu Moro and the deceased, Nasiru Abdul Rahman, to several robbery incidents, including attacks at Kpenateng Junction on August 1, 2026; Kulkpara-Dapoha on June 19; Kpenateng Community on June 15; and Piisi Dapoha on May 23 and March 27, 2026.
The Police say investigations have so far established that the gang allegedly robbed victims of approximately GH¢22,070 in cash, while an additional GH¢3,274 was allegedly siphoned through the victims’ MoMo accounts.
Seven mobile phones have also been retrieved from the suspects and are being examined as part of investigations.
Meanwhile, two other suspected members of the syndicate are currently at large.
They have been identified as Haruna, 30, allegedly the armourer of the gang, and 24-year-old Amadu Mahamudu, son of the deceased suspect.
The Regional Police Command says efforts have been intensified to locate and arrest the two wanted suspects.
The Police have meanwhile urged residents, particularly those in communities affected by recent robbery incidents, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities.
The Command has also appealed to the public to cooperate with investigators by providing credible information that could assist in apprehending the two suspects and preventing further criminal activities.
