Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, says he will never become a member of any political party as he pursues his ambition of becoming President of Ghana.
Speaking on 3FM Sunrise with host Eric Mawuena Egbeta on Friday, August 14, 2026, A-Plus said his decision is driven by his desire to remain independent and make decisions without fear of political consequences.
“I will never be a member of any political party. The biggest problem we have in this country is the fear of losing elections. The parties put pressure on the government. I want to be free and not scared of what I have to say or do with threats of not voting for me. So, I won’t be contesting on party lines.”
A-Plus said he believes the fear of losing elections often forces governments to make decisions based on political considerations rather than what is best for the country.
He argued that an independent president would have greater freedom to take difficult decisions without being constrained by party structures, supporters or financiers.
The Gomoa Central MP has also expressed confidence that his performance in the constituency will eventually convince Ghanaians to support his presidential ambition.
“When I wake up, the next thing I think about is how to become President of Ghana. I know I’ll be President of Ghana one day, and I know it will happen. The people of Ghana will see my achievements in Gomoa Central. People will wake up one day, look at my achievements and say, ‘We want to vote for this man as our President.’”
A-Plus, who won the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the 2024 general elections, is therefore positioning his political career outside Ghana’s traditional NPP-NDC framework.
His comments set the stage for a potentially unconventional presidential campaign, built around his record in Gomoa Central and his stated commitment to political independence.
