Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have converged to hold a night of vigil in solidarity with incarcerated Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako also known as Chairman Wontumi.
The event is being held at the forecourt of Dr Bawumia campaign office in Kumasi.
Many of the patrons of the vigil held lighted candles, with a supporting cup holder to prevent their hands from the melting wax.
They also donned T-shirts embossed with the picture of Chairman Wontumi.

These shirts come in two colours: some white, others black.
One of them, Kofi Owusu said “We have come here to show our love for Wontumi. He is a good man and deserves this. His incarceration is unjustified. I am hopeful, his legal team will make a good case and get him bail.”
Evelyn Anima, came from Nkawie, covering over 30 kilometers to join the vigil “Wontumi is a political prisoner,” she said.
Wontumi was sentenced to 20 years in prison with hard labour on July 20, 2026 over galamsey related charges.
