The Atwima Mponua District Anti-Galamsey Taskforce has taken action against illegal and irresponsible mining activities along the River Offin, targeting the Adiembra and Nantiedi stretches.

During the operation on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, more than 50 pieces of illegal mining equipment operating in and around the water body were destroyed as the Taskforce intensified efforts to protect the river and its surrounding environment from further degradation.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Issahak Ibrahim, stressed on the importance of safeguarding the environment.

”Our rivers and water bodies are a precious inheritance, and we cannot stand by while illegal mining activities threaten them, destroy aquatic ecosystems, and compromise the future of our communities.”

Mr Ibrahim promised residents that the operation sends an unmistakable message: Atwima Mponua will continue to take firm and lawful action to protect its forests, rivers, and other natural resources. He also commended the members of the District Anti-Galamsey Taskforce and all stakeholders supporting this vital fight.

”We will continue to strengthen our monitoring, enforcement, and community engagement efforts to ensure that our water bodies are protected for generations to come,” he emphasized.

He issued a stern reminder to the public:

”Our water bodies are not for destruction. We must protect them today for the generations of tomorrow.” he said.
