The Suame Municipal Chief Executive, Frank Owusu Ansah, has announced that a major demolition will start in selected communities in the Municipality.
Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi with Sir John, on Wednesday, August 19,2026, after demolition exercise at Breman Babamu, expressed serious concern about spreading of containers at unapproved areas in the Municipality.
He blamed the issue on the actions of some residents who have put up structures on unapproved areas.
For generations, the Breman Royal Mausoleum, (Bremam Baamu), has served as one of the sacred resting places of Asante royalty.
The mausoleum holds deep traditional significance in Asante history, serving as the final resting place of members of the Asante royal family. The burial of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, in 2017, and that of the late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III in 2025, both underscored the continued importance of Breman as a royal burial ground.
But just outside this historic and sacred space, commercial activities have gradually taken root, with shops and other structures springing up around the mausoleum.
The development has now triggered action from the Suame Municipal Assembly, which says the structures are unauthorised and that repeated warnings from chiefs and traditional authorities have been ignored.
On Monday, August 17,2026, the Assembly moved in with a demolition exercise, pulling down shops around the Breman Baamu.
The Suame Municipal Chief Executive, Frank Owusu Ansah, stated that the Assembly cannot sit aloof and allow unauthorised commercial activities to continue around the sacred site, particularly after several warnings from the chiefs and traditional authorities.
He insisted that the area has not been authorised for trading and says the Assembly is determined to enforce its regulations.
We will not allow anybody to do business around the Breman Baamu. Traders’ presence there does not show respect to the Asante Kingdom and our elders.
The MCE has consequently warned residents and developers to stay off all unauthorised areas within the Suame Municipality, as the Assembly intensifies its demolition exercise.
“We are not going to tolerate this anymore. I am very firm and focused on this demolition exercise. Nothing will stop us from doing the right thing “, he stated.
He advised property owners whose buildings and structures are in the way of the planned demolition to remove any valuable items before the operation starts.
