Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, says he is ready to walk into Parliament today to defend GoldBod if he is called upon.
He is daring the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, to stop the press conferences and summon him through the Public Accounts Committee.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Mr Gyamfi said claims that GoldBod caused losses under the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme are false.
“I’m waiting with bated breath for Afenyo-Markin’s invitation,” he said.
“I don’t know why he’s delaying and holding press conferences when, as Minority Leader, he can get the Public Accounts Committee to summon me tomorrow or today, and I will appear.”
Mr Gyamfi dismissed claims that a special motion or the Speaker’s approval is needed. “You don’t need any special motion; you don’t need any special order by the Speaker. Just get the Public Accounts Committee to invite us and come and sit down there and come and demonstrate to the whole nation where the Gold Board made losses,” he said.
He added that he has already reached out to Majority Leader James Agalga. “I have in all humility reached out to the new Majority Leader in Parliament, Honourable James Agalga, and I pleaded with him that even if Afenyo-Markin delays in extending this invitation, he should extend the invitation to me and I’m ready to come tomorrow,” he said.
The challenge comes after calls for a probe into GoldBod’s operations. Former Finance Minister of State Abena Osei-Asare, who chairs the Public Accounts Committee, said the reported $1.7 billion loss linked to GoldBod by the IMF must be investigated to safeguard public funds.
Minority Leader, Afenyo-Markin, has also said the GoldBod needs to explain the losses to the public.
But Gyamfi insists GoldBod is not responsible for that loss and says he will prove it under oath. “We are waiting for that,” he said.
