Fufu lovers in Kumasi brushed off wet weather to throng the Akoma 87.9 FM Fufu Party at the New Asafo M/A JHS Park in Asokwa Municipality in Ashanti, on Saturday, August 22,2026.
The event which is the 5th of the Akoma Fufu party coincided with 7th Anniversary Celebrations of the Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi.
They gathered in their numbers to enjoy bowls of the pounded delicacy accompanied by lively highlife music and vibrant community energy.
The patrons arrived with high enthusiasm, turning out despite the rain to celebrate one of the country’s most iconic traditional dishes.
Live performances from groups like the Nyankonton Band kept the crowd organized along side the heavy aromas of fresh local soups.
The massive turnout highlighted how deeply cherished communal Fufu gatherings are, cementing the food’s status as a powerful cultural unifier.
The forecourt of School came to a standstill on as hundreds of Kumasi residents trooped in to eat their favourite food, Fufu.
The Fufu Party saw patrons lined up with their earthenware bowls to get served for free.
The much-anticipated fufu bazaar attracted guests who appeared hungry for the meal after taking in the aroma of the diverse soup from the various kitchens.
The Fufu Party had caterers specially selected from food joints and chop bars in Kumasi to prepare and serve patrons.
They included Abenbebom Chop Bar ( Pankrono), Obaa Yaa Chop Bar ( Krofrom), Stay Bright Chop Bar ( Adwee _Nkwanta, Krofrom), Betty Chop Bar ( Asokwa (, Ceci Chop Bar ( Tanoso), Overhead View( Asokwa), Obaa Fowaa Kitchen ( Ash Town), After Hours Chop Bar ( Iron Birds_ Anloga Junction , Kagis Chop Bar ( Ahodwo) and Confidence Eating Place( Dakodwom) which are known for their delectable fufu with varieties of local soups.
Pomo Tomato Mix, Grofynn Herbal Tonic, Ohene Yere Seasoning Powder, Gengimed Dental Clinic, Last Show Insecticide Powder, Darling Lemon , Medimafo Herbal Clinic, AFR Deodorant Roll On, Pady-Crown Frozen Foods and Akoma Bitters, were on board as main sponsors.
After the belly of some of the patrons was filled with Fufu, they told our news team:
“It doesn’t matter where Akoma will organize a fufu party, I will always come and enjoy myself,”.said a regular patron.
Another said, “The program was well organised and coordinated and I think it should be repeated every year”. The can never deter me from attending. Whether rain or shine will also be available for Akoma Fufu party unless I can’t walk.
Maame Akosua Nyarko sells earthenware bowls at Race Course Market in Kumasi.
She sold over 200 bowls to those who could not bring theirs as the only ticket to guarantee their fufu was the Asanka or Ayowa.
The program had an attraction in live band music which put patrons in a dancing mood.
The Head of Station Akoma 87.9 FM, Ransford Nana Osei Asare, revealed that the target of feeding a thousand people was exceeded.
“We gave the food vendors a target to serve at least hundred patrons which they did. With the help of security personnel, the crowd was properly managed to avoid chaotic scenes,” he said.
He looks forward to a mega 6th edition next year.
He reiterated the station’s commitment to entertain, educate and serve our listeners well.
