Seven people are feared dead after being trapped at a reclaimed mining site at Asaman Tafo in the Atiwa East district of the Eastern region.

They are said to have been trapped underground following an operation at the abandoned site.

A police-led evacuation operation has since been completed, with all seven individuals reportedly found unresponsive.

Police are yet to release details of the development.

The latest incident adds to the growing list of fatalities linked to illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, and abandoned mining pits across the country.
