Former Subin Member of Parliament (MP), Eugene Boakye Antwi, has shot a salvoe at New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, over the party’s abysmal performance in the 2024 elections.
He has described the 2024 defeat as the worst electoral defeat the party has suffered since 1992, calling for a change in leadership to return to power in 2028.
Speaking on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, on Monday, August 31, 2026, the NPP General Secretary aspirant said the NDC now controls two-thirds of Parliament after the NPP lost 50 seats in Kodua’s tenure as General Secretary.
“Our 2024 election is the worst electoral defeat party has had since 1992. As we speak, NDC has two-thirds of Parliament. We lost 50 seats in Parliament,” he lamented.
He recalled how the incumbent General Secretary, before coming to power, had criticised his predecessor, John Boadu, for losing 32 seats, describing it as too much.
“The incumbent General Secretary, prior to coming to power, said the previous Secretary, John Boadu lost 32 seats in one election cycle and was too much. And he has come to lose 50 and John Boadu even kept us in government but this one has taken us to opposition,” he fired.
He argued that losing 50 seats and taking the party to opposition is worse than what he condemned, and therefore has no moral right to remain in office.
Mr. Boakye Antwi is eyeing the NPP General Secretary position as the party rebuilds for 2028. He declared his intention to contest the General Secretary position of the NPP as it prepares for its national executive elections on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
About Eugene Yaw Boakye Antwi
Born on May 7, 1970 at Baman Kwabre in the Ashanti region, Bokye Antwi is a banker and businessman cum politician.
He holds a Higher National Diploma from Westminster College, UK, a BA in Business Administration and a PGDIP in Market Research from the University of Westminster.
He worked with Barclays Bank, now ABSA, from 1999 to 2002, served as Administrator at the UK’s Lord Chancellor’s Department from 2002 to 2006, and was Director of EUGASS Limited from 2006 to 2016.
Politically, he rose through the NPP UK and Ireland branch before winning the Subin seat, which he held from 2017 to 2025. He also served as Deputy Minister of Works and Housing.
He is campaigning on a five-point UNITE agenda – Unite the party, Nurture the grassroots, Improve discipline and internal efficiency, Transform engagement and rebuild trust, and Execute a winning strategy for 2028. His mantra on the campaign trail has been “No discipline, No power.”
