Apple has introduced its first ever foldable smartphone. The tech giant on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, unveiled the iPhone Duo, a major twist to its flagship smartphone line.
The new device comes with two main screen panels and an additional cover display on the front.
According to Apple, it offers the largest and most immersive screen size ever on an iPhone, and it is also the thinnest iPhone yet.
Alongside the Duo, the company also launched the baseline iPhone 18, and the Pro 18 and Pro Max 18 models.
The launch comes exactly seven years after Samsung shipped its first foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold, in September 2019.
Wednesday’s event was also the first product launch presided over by John Ternus as Chief Executive Officer.
Ternus, formerly Apple’s head of hardware engineering, took over from Tim Cook on September 1, 2026.
Speaking at the launch, Ternus said other foldable designs on the market feel like two phones stuck together.
He described the iPhone 18 as your intelligent personal hub. He said Apple Intelligence features, including an enhanced Siri with more expressive voices, will run locally on the device as much as possible to protect user privacy.
