The Ofaakor Circuit Court has sentenced a 25-year-old man to 14 years imprisonment for stealing an iPhone 16 Pro Max and cash at Millennium City, a community in the Gomoa East district of the Central region.
Samuel Kolie was convicted by the court on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, after pleading guilty to robbery and causing harm charges.
According to the Central East Regional Police Command, Kolie attacked a woman around 5:30am on Wednesday, July 10, near Golden Pride Preparatory School, violently robbing her of her handbag containing the smartphone and an undisclosed amount of money.
Police were able to track the convict to his hideout at Ngleshie Amanfro later in the day, following a cooperation between the police and the victim.
A search of the suspect yielded not only the victim’s iPhone 16 Pro Max but also a trove of suspected stolen goods including a Dell laptop, multiple mobile phones (iTel, Nokia and Alcatel models), two pairs of AirPods, a gold necklace, three wristwatches, and ten memory cards. Police also recovered a wallet containing a health insurance card bearing the name Kwapong Sahnan, suggesting Samuel may have been involved in multiple robberies.
Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Region, DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, confirmed the conviction, emphasising the police’s commitment to public safety.
“The Central East Regional Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the public by bringing perpetrators of such crimes to face the full rigours of the law,” he said in a press release.
Kolie was handed a concurrent 5-year jail term for causing harm during the robbery, in addition to the 14-year sentence, which will be served concurrently.
