The Commissioner in-charge of Domestic Tax Revenue at the Ghana Revenue Authority, Dr. Martin Kolbil Yamborigya, is reconstructing the Gaare Primary School in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.
The school was badly damaged by a windstorm. The disaster destroyed its roof, windows, and other parts of the building.
Gaare Primary School was built between 2012 and 2016. It serves Gaare and other nearby communities.
In May 2026, a windstorm first hit the school. The Talensi District Assembly patched the broken windows and roof.
Three months later, in August 2026, another strong windstorm hit the school. It caused more damage and almost stopped teaching and learning.
Moved by the situation, Dr. Yamborigya decided to fund the full reconstruction of the school. The goal is to create a safe and comfortable environment for teaching and learning.
The Talensi District Chief Executive, Millim Nabwomya, and some Assembly staff have visited the school to check the progress of work. Workers are currently on site.
Mr. Nabwomya thanked Dr. Yamborigya for his support to the Gaare community.
“He told me to get the estimate for the work. He has sent money and an engineer is supervising the project. They are now doing the re-roofing. After that, they will fix the doors, windows, and floor,” the DCE said.
“We have bought plywood for the headmaster’s office ceiling and a new panel door for his office,” he added.
He clarified that Dr. Yamborigya is solely funding the project.
“Earlier reports said we were both handling the work, but Dr. Yamborigya is the one renovating the entire school. He started with re-roofing. Workers are removing the old, damaged roofing sheets and replacing them with new ones,” he explained.
Mr. Nabwomya also praised the government for development projects in the district. He said President John Dramani Mahama’s administration has provided many schools, health facilities, and other infrastructure through the District Assembly Common Fund.
“Every community has benefited. Some got schools, others got CHPS compounds,” he said.
Dr. Yamborigya has previously supported Talensi with other development projects, including roads to the Gaare community.
